How Punch Pizza
Came to Life


Punch pizza was born from a simple but powerful belief: that pizza, made with integrity and soul, can be a transformative experience. Founders John and Elena Puck traveled through Naples in 2003, falling in love with the art of wood-fired Neapolitan pizza — its blistered cornicione, silky San Marzano tomatoes, and pillowy fresh mozzarella.

Returning to Eden Prairie with notebooks full of recipes and hearts full of inspiration, they opened the first Punch Pizza in 2004. The name "Punch" reflects both the bold, punchy flavors of true Neapolitan pizza and the vigor they bring to every aspect of their craft. No shortcuts, no frozen dough — just honest, hand-crafted pizza made fresh every single day.

What started as a small neighborhood pizzeria has grown into a beloved United States institution, serving communities across the region while never losing sight of what makes punch pizza special: quality ingredients, skilled hands, and an unwavering commitment to the Neapolitan tradition.

Two Decades of
Punch Pizza History


2004

The First Location Opens

John and Elena Puck open the original Punch Pizza in Eden Prairie, MN. Armed with a single wood-burning oven imported from Naples and a 90-day aged dough recipe, the doors open to a line stretching around the block.

2007

Regional Recognition

Punch Pizza earns its first regional "Best Pizza" award from Minneapolis Monthly. Our Margherita pizza is cited as "the most authentic Neapolitan pizza in the Midwest" — a distinction we wear with pride to this day.

2010

Expanding Across Minnesota

Demand propels Punch Pizza to open three new locations across the Twin Cities metro area. Each restaurant features its own hand-built, custom-designed wood-burning oven, maintaining the artisan tradition at scale.

2013

VPN Certification

Punch Pizza receives Verace Pizza Napoletana (VPN) certification — one of fewer than 100 restaurants in all of North America to hold this prestigious honor, confirming our adherence to true Neapolitan pizza-making standards.

2016

Community Farm Partnerships

We launch our local farm-to-table initiative, partnering with 8 regional farms across the United States to source seasonal vegetables, herbs, and dairy products. Our seasonal specials menus are born from these relationships.

2019

National Media Spotlight

Food & Wine magazine names Punch Pizza one of "America's 50 Best Pizzerias." National media coverage brings guests from across the country to Eden Prairie to taste the punch pizza difference firsthand.

2024

20 Years & Growing Strong

Punch Pizza celebrates its 20th anniversary with 12 locations, a new delivery platform, and the launch of our Artisan Catering division. We serve over 500,000 pizzas annually while remaining true to every principle we started with.
